2026 / 2027 academic year · Open to any university
Seven months managing a $10,000 virtual portfolio under the same rules a real fund would follow.
You pick your university, accept the rules and your Challenge portfolio is ready.
Last day to sign up and start with everyone else from the first session.
Portfolios open with $10,000 in virtual money and you build your first one.
Almost seven months of competition, plenty of time to find out who the best really are.
Provisional dates pending official confirmation.
Your returns add to your university's ranking. Are you going to let the rivals beat you?
You start with a virtual portfolio. You learn to invest for real without putting in any money of your own.
Overall, by country and within your own university. There's always a ranking to fight for.
There will be prizes for the best investors. We will announce them before the Challenge starts.
Pick your university, accept the rules and your Challenge portfolio is ready right away.
You build your portfolio and adjust it in the monthly rebalancing windows. Between windows, let the market do the work.
On April 30 the final standings are published and the prizes are awarded.
A tournament with the same constraints as a real fund. This is what you can do, and when.
Every participant starts with the same virtual capital. There is no real money at stake at any point.
You build your portfolio from listed stocks and ETFs. No investment funds, and no leveraged or inverse products.
No holding above 20%, large positions (over 10%) add up to at most 40%, and at least 5 different holdings.
Between windows your portfolio is locked. Each window opens on the last weekend of the month: you decide the changes and the system executes them.
€2,600 in prizes: €2,100 for the five best investors and €500 for the best investment club.
The five best investors in the competition share €2,100.
We reward the investment club with the best collective result. When you sign up you say whether you compete for a club at your university.
A club scores the average of its 10 best participants, so it needs at least 10 to be eligible for the prize.
Prizes go to the best risk-adjusted returns among students who follow the good-investor rules — not to whoever made the riskiest bet.
There are no sprint prizes: that budget goes entirely to the best-club prize. Cash prizes are subject to any applicable tax withholding.
The ranking rewards investing well, not gambling. Here's how we decide the standings.
Ranking by maximum return rewards going all-in. A portfolio that climbs with big scares doesn't beat one that grows steadily.
We measure your return against the downside scares you caused (the Sortino ratio) and subtract for your biggest drop. Two portfolios with the same gain don't score the same if one plunged along the way.
Like a real fund: no holding above 20%, big positions (over 10%) add up to 40% at most, at least 5 holdings and no leveraged or inverse products. Break a rule and you can't win even with a high return.
Everyone is measured from the first day of the Challenge. If you join later, the earlier days count with the median participant's return: it neither hurts nor helps you. At each rebalancing window, a portfolio over the limits is trimmed neutrally, like a fund would.
Each university is represented by its 10 best participants, and its standing is the average score of those ten. The university that signs up the most people does not win: the one that produces the best ten does. Even so, every extra sign-up is one more shot at making that top 10. Investment clubs are ranked by the same rule, which is why a club needs at least 10 participants to be eligible for its prize.
If you teach, run a student society or lead a degree programme, this is what you need to know before bringing it to your faculty.
It is a portfolio simulator. No real orders are placed and no money moves at any point in the challenge.
We give no investment recommendations and offer no investment services. Rankia is not registered with the CNMV.
A Spanish-language personal finance community since 2003. We provide the platform, the support and the calendar.
The faculty does not have to install anything or take on any cost. It only needs to spread the word among its students.
Sign up in two minutes and your portfolio is ready for October 13.
