How to see your real return on Trade Republic and DEGIRO

To see the real return of your Trade Republic or DEGIRO portfolio you need two things: the transaction history your broker lets you download, and a calculation that accounts for when each euro went in, the TWR or the money-weighted return. The percentage in the app answers a different question, and only for that account.

In short

  • A broker's percentage either mixes your decisions with the timing of your deposits or only measures the positions you still hold, and it never sees the money you have elsewhere.
  • Trade Republic lets you export your transactions as a CSV file from your profile, under Statements; DEGIRO exports Transactions and the Account statement as CSV, Excel or PDF.
  • With that file you can work out your TWR and money-weighted return in Excel, or upload it as it is to MyPortfolio, which reads it with AI and asks about anything unclear before saving anything.

Why your broker's percentage is not your return

Each broker shows a different figure, and none of them is wrong: they simply answer different questions. Trade Republic explains in its help centre (checked on 7 October 2026) that its performance adds realised and unrealised gains, dividends, fees and taxes, and divides the total by the average size of the portfolio over the period. That figure weights your money: if you added cash just before a fall, it looks worse.

DEGIRO shows its total profit and loss in euros since you opened the account, with dividends, currency effects and transaction fees included, but no percentage you can compare with an index. The unrealised P/L of each position, on the other hand, leaves out fees and dividends.

None of those figures is the TWR, the return that measures your decisions regardless of when you deposited money, and the only one you can compare with a fund or an index. And all of them stay inside that account: if you invest with two brokers, neither knows how the whole lot is doing. Try it with an example: the same year, seen two ways.

What your broker shows vs your real returnYou deposit €10,000 in January and the portfolio rises 10% by July. Then you add another €10,000, the second half falls 6% and you receive €300 in dividends, which stay in cash.
Return of the positions-1.3%
Gain of the positions-€260
The positions screen compares what they are worth today (€19,740) with what you paid (€20,000). The €300 of dividends sit in cash and do not count, and it cannot tell that €10,000 came in in July.

Which file to download from each broker

A snapshot of your holdings is not enough to work out the real return: you need the dated history. Every deposit, withdrawal, purchase and sale, and if possible the dividends and fees. This is what each broker gives you, according to its help pages as of 7 October 2026.

How to export your Trade Republic transactions to Excel or PDF

Since April 2026, Trade Republic lets you download every transaction of your account as a CSV file, which any spreadsheet opens. That is the file you need: the PDF account statement is only the monthly summary of your cash account.

  1. Go to your profile and open Statements

According to Trade Republic's help centre (updated on 14 July 2026), that is where both the account statement and the Transaction Export live.

  2. Choose Transaction Export and the dates

Set the start date before your first deposit, so the whole history comes out, and create the file. It downloads as a CSV.

  3. Tax documents are separate

The PDF account statement comes month by month. The documents for your tax return are under Profile, Tax: they are for the tax office, not for working out your return.

How to export your DEGIRO transactions and annual report

DEGIRO offers the most formats. Mind one detail: Transactions is the summary of what you bought and sold, while dividends and money paid in or out appear in the Account statement. Download both.

  1. Open the Inbox

On the website it is in the menu on the left; in the app, at the bottom right. Inside you will find Transactions and the Account statement.

  2. Widen the dates and export

One month is shown by default. Move the start date back to the day you opened the account and press Export to download it as CSV, Excel or PDF. Repeat in the other tab.

  3. The annual report, for the tax office

Under Inbox, Documents, DEGIRO publishes two PDFs each year: a report for your tax return and one with the year's costs and charges. They help with taxes, but they do not replace the history for working out your return.

How to calculate your real return by hand, in Excel

With the history downloaded, the calculation fits on one sheet: put the dates in one column and, in another, the money going in (negative) and the final value of the portfolio (positive); the XIRR function gives you the annual return on your money. For the TWR, split the period at each deposit or withdrawal and chain the returns of each stretch.

It works well with one broker and few deposits. With monthly contributions, dividends in dollars or two accounts, keeping the sheet up to date becomes a job in itself.

Step by step: how to calculate your portfolio return in Excel

How to calculate it by uploading the statement to MyPortfolio

MyPortfolio has an AI importer that does not rely on a template per broker: it reads the columns of each file, be it Trade Republic's transaction CSV, DEGIRO's Excel file or a PDF statement, identifies each security by its ISIN and checks quantities and prices against the market. Whatever it is not sure about, it asks you before saving anything.

It accepts CSV, Excel, PDF (scanned ones too, up to 30 pages) and screenshots or photos, up to 10 files of 20 MB at a time; if a transaction appears in two files, it is counted once. It does not need your broker login and deletes the files as soon as it has read them. It does not copy dividends from the statement: the app works them out itself from what you held on each date.

  1. Download the full history

From the day you opened the account. With DEGIRO, Transactions and the Account statement; with Trade Republic, the CSV or the PDF statements.

  2. Upload it under “Import” when you create the portfolio

Choose the portfolio currency and drop the files. Reading can take a few minutes; the result shows up on the same page.

  3. Check what it read and answer its questions

You will see the positions and transactions before the portfolio is created. Then you will have the TWR, the money-weighted return, the comparison with an index and the risk, updated every day.

What does your broker account really return?Upload the statement or transaction file you download from your broker: the AI reads it, asks about anything unclear and we calculate your TWR and money-weighted return.

If you have accounts with several brokers

It is the usual case: funds in one place, shares or ETFs in another. Each broker gives you its own percentage, but the question that matters is how all your money is doing together, and none of them can answer it.

The answer is to bring the histories together in one place: a spreadsheet, if you are up for maintaining it, or a MyPortfolio portfolio with each broker's files, which you can upload at once or add to the same portfolio later without duplicating transactions.

Frequently asked questions

Can I download my Trade Republic statement in Excel?

Yes: since April 2026, Profile, Statements, Transaction Export downloads your whole history as a CSV file, which opens in Excel. The account statement, on the other hand, is a monthly PDF; MyPortfolio can read both.

What does the DEGIRO annual report include?

Two PDFs that DEGIRO publishes under Inbox, Documents: one with the figures for your tax return and one with the year's costs and charges. To calculate your return you also need Transactions and the Account statement.

Does my broker's return include dividends?

It depends on the figure. Trade Republic's performance and DEGIRO's total profit and loss include them; the unrealised P/L of each DEGIRO position does not. None of them is a TWR you can compare with an index.

Does MyPortfolio need my broker login?

No. You only upload the files you download yourself; MyPortfolio does not connect to your broker and deletes the files as soon as it has read them.
